Streaking Stars win 7th straight

COCHENOUR, Ont. – An Avery Siau goal midway through the contest proved to be the game-winner as the streaking Thunder Bay North Stars won their seventh Superior International Junior Hockey League game in a row Saturday as they defeated the English River Miners 3-1 at Cochenour Arena.

The opening period was scoreless until the late going when Thunder Bay’s Brad Arabia connected with just eight seconds left in the period.

Siau then put the North Stars up by two half way through the second as he finished off the work of Aaron Wesley-Chisel and Brad Thrower.

English River pulled to within one with six minutes remaining in regulation on a Nash Dabb effort as he collected his eighth of the campaign.

Thunder Bay starter Riley Corbin held the fort from there while Kris Hamlin iced it with an empty netter in the final minute to round out the scoring.

Nicholas Nigro and Kenny Turner drew assists on Arabia’s first period marker to extend consecutive game point streaks to eight and seven respectively.

Shots on goal in the contest were 38 apiece with Corbin picking up the win and Korlan Vader making 35 stops in defeat for the Miners.

The same two teams will meet again Sunday afternoon in a 2 p.m. start at Ear Falls Arena.
