Fort Frances, ON – The Fort Frances Lakers delivered an exciting comeback performance Friday night, October 16, earning a hard-fought 5-4 victory over the Red Lake Miners at the Memorial Sports Centre. Despite a difficult start, the Lakers battled back after Red Lake struck twice on the power play just 29 seconds apart to take an early 2-0 lead. Gunnar Simon got Fort Frances on the board at 16:04, converting a power-play opportunity off assists from Lynden Gould and Tie Schumacher to cut the deficit to one heading into the second period. The Lakers carried that momentum into the middle frame, quickly turning the game around with three unanswered goals to seize control. Lynden Gould led the offensive charge with two goals and two assists, putting together a four-point performance. Gould opened the second-period scoring just 1:35 in, with assists from Cole Dowling and Parker Henderson, before striking again at 7:03 with help from Thomas Grapentine and Carter Peters. Bryant Linklater followed at 10:49, finishing a play set up by Gould to give the Lakers a 4-2 advantage. Red Lake’s Makhi Wandler answered late in the period to bring the Miners within one, setting up a tense final frame. The Miners continued to push, tying the game at 4-4 on Hayden Seib’s power-play goal at 4:47 of the third, threatening to spoil the Lakers’ comeback. With the game hanging in the balance, Linklater stepped up once again, scoring his second goal of the night at 13:55 to restore the Lakers’ lead and deliver the eventual game-winner. Noah Hudson picked up the assist on the decisive goal as Fort Frances held on through the closing minutes to secure the victory. The Lakers outshot the Miners 54-28, putting consistent pressure on Red Lake’s goaltender, while Brady Shields made 24 saves on 28 shots to earn the win. Red Lake finished three-for-five on the power play, while Fort Frances converted once on five opportunities.
