North Stars’ Mann named SIJHL’s top goaltender

THUNDER BAY, Ont. – The Superior International Junior Hockey League announced Thursday that Eric Mann of the Thunder Bay North Stars has been named its top goaltender award recipient for the 2013-14 season.

The 18-year-old rookie netminder, who hails from Thunder Bay, earned the accolades over fellow finalists Jordan Cartney of the Fort Frances Lakers and Alex Reichle of the Minnesota Iron Rangers for the honour in balloting done by each of the SIJHL’s member clubs.

Mann, who was earlier named a CCM first team all-star, produced 21 victories in his first season in the league against just five losses and four overtime or shootout setbacks.

He went on to play more minutes than any goaltender in the regular season while finishing in the top five in both goals-against average and save percentage.

Mann becomes the first North Stars’ netminder to win the SIJHL’s top goaltender award since the 2005-06 campaign when Carter Hutton of National Hockey League’s Nashville Predators earned the laurels.
