FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
The Red Lake Miners are proud to announce the hiring of Kurt Walsten as the organization’s new Head Coach and General Manager.
Walsten brings a wealth of experience to the Miners, highlighted by more than 500 career coaching victories. He currently holds the record for the most coaching wins in SIJHL history with more than 350 victories, along with two Bill Salonen Cup Championships, two SIJHL Coach of the Year awards, and three CJHL Coach of the Year honourable mentions.
Known for building hard-working, competitive teams, Walsten now turns his focus toward establishing that same culture in Red Lake.
“I am really excited for the opportunity to work with the Miners organization,” said Walsten. “We are going to build a team that competes every night, plays hard, and helps players develop to the next level. Culture and accountability will be a major emphasis of our program, and our players need to take pride in how they play and represent the Miners organization.”
The Miners Board of Directors is excited to have Kurt Walsten leading the organization into the 2026-27 season. Miners fans can expect a hardworking, competitive team that will make the Cochenour Arena one of the toughest buildings in the SIJHL for opposing teams to play in.
