Fort Frances Lakers Strachan named SIJHL coach of the year

THUNDER BAY, Ont. – The Superior International Junior Hockey League announced Thursday that Wayne Strachan of the Fort Frances Lakers has been named the SIJHL’s coach of the year for the 2013-14 season.

Strachan claimed the honours over fellow finalists Jeremy Adduono of the Thunder Bay North Stars and Kevin Kahoot of the English River Miners.

This marks the fourth time Strachan has earned SIJHL coach of the year accolades, tying him for the most in league history along with former Thunder Bay North Stars bench boss Todd Howarth.

The Fort Frances native led his team to the best record in the SIJHL this season at 46-6-2-2.

His club was also tabbed fifth overall in the final Canadian Junior Hockey League top 20 rankings of the campaign.

Strachan’s efforts behind the bench helped his team record the most victories of any Fort Frances-based team in SIJHL history, which includes the Fort Frances Jr. Sabres and Borderland Thunder.

He was earlier named to the league’s CCM first all-star team at both head coach and general manager.
