25/26 SIJHL League MVP – Brady Cates

Brady has had an exceptional rookie season with the Lakers, finishing with an outstanding 20-4-1-0 record. He led the league in save percentage, goals against average, and wins (tied), becoming the first goalie to achieve that feat since the 2019-20 season. His 1.84 GAA and 0.936 SV% are not only top 10 all time (6th and 7th, respectively), but also the best statistics for an U18 SIJHL goaltender in our league’s history. Brady was undefeated on home ice, had 3 shutouts, and was instrumental in the Lakers 1st place finish.

The goalies typically split games throughout the season, but during a difficult stretch of 6 games in 12 days late in the season, Brady played every game while the other goalie was recovering from an injury. He was the difference for our team in several “must-win” games through that stretch that included wins vs Sioux Lookout, Dryden, and Thunder Bay. In those 6 games, Brady was 5-1 with 2 shutouts, a 1.50 GAA, and a 0.947 SV% to cement our position in 1st place.
