Iron Rangers’ Johnson named Amyotte’s Awards & Promotions player of the week
THUNDER BAY, Ont. – The Superior International Junior Hockey League announced Monday that Minnesota Iron Rangers defenceman Dalton Johnson has been named the Amyotte’s Awards & Promotions Corp. player of the week for the period ending Dec. 20.
In three games last week the 19-year-old from Cloquet, Minn., amassed six points helping Minnesota pick up four points in the league standings.
Johnson began by securing an assist in a home ice win over English River Thursday.
The Iron Rangers D-man then helped set-up a trio tallies as his club won a second straight contest against the Miners Friday.
He then wrapped up his efforts with a goal and an assist in a road setback vs. the league-leading Fort Frances Lakers Saturday.
Through 27 games Johnson shares the Minnesota team lead in offensive production with 20 points, including six goals.
Those numbers also put him in sixth spot in scoring among SIJHL defencemen.
Also earning consideration for Amyotte’s player of the week honours was Nick Minerva, (D) Fort Frances Lakers; Kenny Turner, (F) Thunder Bay North Stars; Josh Oberg, (F) Dryden GM Ice Dogs and Nash Dabb (F) English River Miners.
With the SIJHL now on its holiday break, the league player of the week award will return in January.
