Wilderness set SIJHL record for points in a single season

THUNDER BAY, Ont. – A stellar regular season on the ice has allowed the Minnesota Wilderness to establish a new Superior International Junior Hockey League record for points in a season with 104.

The Wilderness won their third straight league regular season crown finishing up with an impressive 53-3-0-2 overall record.

Included was a streak of 41 games since their last loss in regulation time, which came back on Oct. 24.

They were a staggering 39-0-0-2 in that span with only a pair of shootout setbacks to blemish their regular season-ending run.

The Wilderness also finished up No. 2 overall in the final Canadian Junior Hockey League Top 20 rankings of the season released earlier this week.

Those listings were tabulated each week in conjunction with NHL Central Scouting.

They were slotted in the second spot for the final 13 weeks of the CJHL rankings.

Of note the only other SIJHL club to hit the 100-point plateau in a season was the 2005-06 Fort William North Stars.

Having played four fewer games that year the North Stars only lost twice in 52 outings while setting the SIJHL record for best winning percentage in a season at .962.

That squad also went on to capture the Bill Salonen Cup SIJHL playoff title, the Dudley-Hewitt Cup Central Canadian Jr. A championship before falling in overtime in semifinal play at the Royal Bank Cup national event to the eventual champion Burnaby Express.

The following are the highest single-season point totals in 12-year history of the SIJHL:
