Lakers winning streak reaches 11

DRYDEN, Ont.  – Jon Carlson tallied twice, including the game-winner in 3:10 into overtime, to help propel the Fort Frances Lakers to a 4-3 come from behind victory over the Dryden Ice Dogs Wednesday evening in Superior International Junior Hockey League play at Memorial Arena.

It was the hometown Ice Dogs who jumped out to a 2-0 lead after one period of play on goals by Derek McPhail and Tyson Holder.

A man advantage marker late in the middle stanza got Fort Frances on the board as Jacob Nolan notched his 11th goal of the season at 17:26.

Mike Butler put Dryden back on top by pair early in the final frame only to see the Lakers storm back and force extra time.

Fort Frances captain Merritt Rysavy made it 3-2 at 8:13 then Carlson leveled the proceedings with 7:46 remaining in regulation.

Carlson then capped off the comeback by wiring in the winner as he buried his 13th effort of the campaign to finish things off.

The triumph helped extend the Lakers’ consecutive win streak to 11 straight outings as they improved to 34-15-1-2 on the season.

Talor Joseph won for a 10 time in as many starts for the Fort finishing up with 28 saves on the night.

Robert Kopytek faced 31 shots in the OT setback as with the point Dryden wrapped up their regular season portion of their schedule at 28-25-2-1.

SIJHL action resumes this weekend as the Lakers host the Thunder Bay North Stars Friday and Saturday at Ice for Kids Arena. Game time each night is set for 7:30 p.m.
