Thunder Bay Thrashes Kenora

Thunder Bay, ON – Thunder Bay opened up a four-goal lead, had nine different players score two more points, and Ben Laurette won his third as the Stars shrugged off Friday’s loss with an 8-2 win before 543 fans at the Gardens.

Dimitri Trahiotis led the offense with two goals and an assist, Alex Remenda notched a pair, and Edison Weeks dished out three helpers to highlight the notables. Eric Sheriff, Cohen Tangedal and Tyler Jordan had a goal and assist each. Keagan Jones, former Islander Tristen Bear and Cameron Dial each had two assists. Jordan reached the 20-goal plateau, joining fellow North Stars Easton Mikus, Weeks and EJ Paddington in the elite club. The SIJHL has 10 players with 20 snipes or more.

Trahiotis, Remenda, Beau Helmeczi and Sheriff had the Stars out to a 4-0 lead before Ezekiel Kirkness scored for Kenora at 16:28 of the first. Jordan’s goal at 1:50 of the second chased Islander starting goalie Connor Dunham-Fox. Tangedal beat Friday’s hero Matthew Stephens at 5:23 for a 6-1 lead. John Paul Scaringi notched his 5th unassisted to reduce the lead to 6-2.

Trahiotis and Remenda added to the route in the third.

Laurette stopped 21 of 23 for his third win in three starts. Dunham-Fox let in five on 21 shots, while Stephens stopped 38 of 41 the rest of the way. Kenora took nine minor penalties to Thunder Bay’s four. The Stars were 2-8 on the powerplay while killing off three.
