Thunder Bay takes Opener against Wisconsin

By Tanner Schafer

Spooner, WI – The North Stars and Lumberjacks battled on Friday night in a rough game with over 70 penalty minutes assessed. Thunder Bay outskated the Lumberjacks wire to wire winning comfortably 6-3

The North Stars dominated from the first whistle scoring less than 5 minutes into the game and tripling the Lumberjacks shots on goal for the period 18-6. The 1st goal for the away side was scored by EJ Paddington with assists going to Edison Weeks and Easton Mikus. Weeks would follow his assist up with a goal of his own 13 minutes into the period giving Thunder Bay a 2-0 lead at the 1st intermission.

Just 29 seconds into the 2nd period The North Stars would once again extend their lead on a goal scored by Mikus and assisted by Weeks, his 3rd point of the night. The Lumberjacks showed they still had some fight in them with 2 powerplay goals 2 minutes apart in the early part of the period. Simon Davidson and Zach Johnson were the players who lit the lamp for Wisconsin. Thunder Bay would answer back less than 30 seconds later on Weeks 2nd goal of the night. And after another minute it was Nolan Desjardins for the North Stars making it 5-2. Shots on goal in the period again heavily favored the Candians by a mark of 14-7.

The North Stars dominated the 3 period as the Lumberjacks didn’t secure enough shots on goal to tie the game even if they scored on every shot. Thunder Bay had a 15-2 edge in that category and the teams traded goals making it a 6-3 finish. The lone bright spot for Wisconsin was finishing the night 3 of 6 on the powerplay. The 2 teams will battle again on Saturday
