Dann Leads Miners In Win Over Lakers

The Fort Frances Lakers made their way up the 502, then across the 17 and up the 105 to the Cochenour Arena to face the Red Lake Miners for the first time in the 2023/24 SIJHL season.  Jack Orchard would get the start in net for the Lakers while Noah Davis would get the nod for the Miners.

Nathan Dann would open the game scoring with a great solo effort.  Dann’s unassisted tally at 4:10 would be the only scoring in the first period. After 20 Minutes Miners lead 1-0 and shots are 13-12 in favour of the Lakers.

Fort Frances would tie the game up at 1 on the power play at 13:13 courtesy of Ryker Wyatt his 4th of the season.  Jack Orchard would keep his team in the game making a few big stops before Gabe Tanton would make it 2-1 with his second 15:20. Miners would go up 3-1 on a goal from Ty Genik his first Junior A goal.  After 40 minutes Miners lead 3-1 and  lead the shot count 29-25.

Third period action saw Blake Hiltermann get the Miners power play back on track with his 5th of the season at 2:11.  Miners would convert again on the power play at 7:36 on Nathan Dann’s 6th of the season.  Dann would complete the hat trick at 14:54 with his 8th.  The Lakers would get a couple late goals from Josh Greene and Trever Sanderson to make the final score Miners 6 Lakers 3.  Despite being shorthanded 10 times the Miners outshot the Lakers 39-35.

Noah Davis picked up his second win as a Miner and the Miners are now on a 3 game winning streak.
