Stout’s 20th of the season lifts Dryden over English River

DRYDEN, Ont. – Eric Stout’s Superior International Junior Hockey League-leading 20th goal of the season with 3:35 to go was the game-winner as the Dryden GM Ice Dogs skated to a 5-4 victory over the English River Miners Wednesday evening at Memorial Arena.

The power play allowed Dryden to take a 1-0 lead after one period of play thanks to Cody Wardner’s first SIJHL marker at 14:08.

Austin Kuhn drew the visitors level 4:42 in the second only to see Braedyn Allkins strike shorthanded to put the GM Ice Dogs on top.

However the Miners came right back and tied it again during a man advantage as Terix Fischer-Kobes collected his second of the campaign.

English River then went up 3-2 just 20 seconds into the third on a Nash Dabb effort.

Answering almost immediately, Dryden responded with goals from Trey Palermo and Allkins to first pull even they go up by one.

After the Miners’ Kole Comin deflected in his first SIJHL goal during a man advantage opportunity at 9:33, Stout won it while Dryden was on the power play at 16:25 to round out the night’s scoring.

The GM Ice Dogs out shot English River 44-40 with Patrick Zubick registering the win while Spencer Eschyschyn suffered the loss.
