SIJHL alumnus Faragher records 1st AHL win

THUNDER BAY, Ont. – Former Superior International Junior Hockey League top goaltender award recipient Ryan Faragher recorded his first American Hockey League victory Sunday backstopping the Norfolk Admirals to a 3-2 triumph on the road Sunday vs. the Bridgeport Sound Tigers.

Faragher finished with 27 saves in earning the decision.

He captured the SIJHL’s top goaltender honour back during the 2007-08 campaign for his hometown Fort Frances Jr. Sabres squad before eventually going to star at St. Cloud State University in the NCAA.

Faragher signed a professional contract with the Anaheim Ducks in 2014 and has spent his first season as a professional between the Utah Grizzlies of the ECHL and Norfolk in the AHL.

Other former SIJHL top goaltender award recipients include Carter Hutton, currently with the NHL’s Nashville Predators and Gordie Defiel, who is in his freshman season at Lake Superior State University.
