O’Dea lifts Iron Rangers past Ice Dogs in shootout

HOYT LAKES, Minn. – Minnesota Iron Rangers forward Matt O’Dea tallied twice and then notched the lone goal in the shootout to help lift his team to a 4-3 victory over the Dryden GM Ice Dogs Saturday in a Superior International Junior Hockey League contest at Hoyt Lakes Arena.

Nick Prouty opened the scoring for Dryden 16:18 into the first period only to see O’Dea notch the equalizer a minute and a half later.

O’Dea put Minnesota in front early in the second, but the visitors responded with markers from Kyle Pouncy and Jonathon Philley to take a 3-2 lead after 40 minutes.

The Iron Rangers forced extra time thanks to a Will Fobair effort 3:54 into the third.

It stayed scoreless the remainder of regulation and the five-minute overtime session resulting in the shootout being need to determine a winner.

In extra shots it was O’Dea who was the only one to connect to give Minnesota the second point on the night.

Each side fired 48 attempts on net with Kyle Carignan picking up the win and Chase Gorman helping his side pick up a point in defeat.
