THUNDER BAY, Ont. – The Thunder Bay North Stars of the Superior International Junior Hockey League have announced that forward Keighan Gerrie has officially committed to attend Bowling Green State University on NCAA Division I scholarship and play for the Falcons men’s program starting in the fall of 2020.
The 17-year-old Thunder Bay product is currently in his second season with the North Stars in the SIJHL where he sits in fifth spot in league scoring with 58 points, in just 33 games, on 27 tallies and 31 assists.
Meanwhile, his six game-winning markers tie him for first among all SIJHL skaters with teammate Ryan Mignault.
Gerrie was recently named by National Hockey League Central Scouting to their mid-term rankings as a prelude to the 2019 NHL Draft in Vancouver.
There he was tabbed 140th overall, among North American skaters, in the NHL CS mid-term listings.
Last season’s SIJHL Rookie of the Year also represented the SIJHL at the Canadian Junior Hockey League Prospects Game on January 22, in a match-up held in Okotoks, Alta., and featured 40 of the top CJHL draft hopefuls.
His Team West side went on to skate to a 5-2 victory over Team East with the line-ups for both sides being selected by NHL Central Scouting.
In 86 career league contests, Gerrie has scored 51 times and set-up 58 others.
He has already set personal single-season highs in tallies, helpers and points so far in 2018-19.
In committing to Bowling Green he’ll be joining the Ohio-based university that is a member of the Western Collegiate Hockey Association where they currently sit in second place, among 10 schools, entering game action tonight.
The Falcons were also slotted in a tie for 13th in the most recent USCHO.com Top 20 Rankings.
Among those on the staff at Bowling Green is Thunder Bay product Barry Schutte, who is in his ninth year as an assistant coach at the school.
Schutte played his Jr. A hockey in the United States Hockey League for his hometown Thunder Bay Flyers before earning a NCAA D-I scholarship himself to Miami (Ohio) University.
