Minnesota skates to 5th straight win

HOYT LAKES, Minn. – Make it five wins in a row for the Minnesota Iron Rangers.

Their latest Superior International Junior Hockey League triumph came Thursday evening as they doubled up the visiting Fort Frances Lakers 4-2 at Hoyt Lakes Arena.

Minnesota took a 2-1 lead after one period of play getting unassisted efforts from Noah Anderson and Jason Reynolds sandwiched around a Bryson Jasper marker for Fort Frances.

After Eric Madison made it 3-1 three minutes into the middle session, A.J. Rupert extended the Iron Rangers lead spelling an end to Lakers’ starter Ryan Ferguson’s night.

Wyatt Cota pulled Fort Frances back to within two in the latter stages of the second stanza as he notched a power play marker at 17:56.

That would turn out to be the final goal of the night however as Minnesota extended their winning streak while improving to 6-1-0-1 on the season.

Shots on goal favoured the home side 36-28 with Kyle Carignan picking up the win while Ferguson was saddled with the loss as the Lakers slipped to 7-3-0-1 overall.

Devin Tappenden stopped all 13 attempts he faced in relief.

SIJHL action resumes Friday on two fronts as the Iron Rangers host the English River Miners at 7 p.m. while the Thunder Bay North Stars are at home to take on the Dryden GM Ice Dogs in a 7:30 p.m. start at the Fort William Gardens.
