Power play prevails as North Stars edge GM Ice Dogs 3-2

THUNDER BAY, Ont. – It was a night for the power play as all five goals scored came during a man advantage as the Thunder Bay North Stars edged the Dryden Ice GM Ice Dogs 3-2 Friday evening in a hard-hitting Superior International Junior Hockey League contest at the Fort William Gardens.

Thunder Bay jumped out to a 2-0 lead midway through the opening period on extra man efforts courtesy of Kri Kellaway and Matthias Gardiman.

Matt Houston put Dryden on the board with a power play tally of his own at 13:38 of the first to cut into the deficit.

The North Stars went up a pair 47 seconds into the middle stanza as Ryan Walsh blasted home the eventual game-winner for his past past Ice Dogs starter Tate Sproxton.

Kyle Pouncy made it 3-2 with five and a half minutes to go in the third, but his side would get no closer before time expired.

Gardiman and Walsh both had two assists as well on the night for three-point games.

Shots on goal favoured Thunder Bay 38-34 with Eric Mann securing the win and Sproxton the loss.
