Miners’ Maticic named Amyotte’s Awards & Promotions rookie of the month
THUNDER BAY, Ont. – The Superior International Junior Hockey League announced Tuesday that English River Miners forward Alex Maticic has been named the Amyotte’s Awards & Promotions Corp. rookie of the month for January.
In 13 games in January, the 16-year-old native of Thunder Bay registered nine points for English River on four goals and five assists.
Two of his tallies were game-winners for the Miners in back-to-back contests, which in part helped him earn SIJHL player of the week accolades for the period ending Jan. 22.
As the second youngest player in the SIJHL this season, Maticic has scored 12 times and added a dozen helpers for 24 points, which leaves him fourth in league offensive production among first year skaters.
For his efforts Maticic will receive a prize package from Amyotte’s Awards & Promotions Corp.
Also receiving consideration for SIJHL rookie of the month honours was: Sam Schultz, (D) Fort Frances Lakers; Avery Siau, (F) Thunder Bay North Stars; Troy Williams, (D) Dryden GM Ice Dogs; Kyle Carignan, (G) Minnesota Iron Rangers.
