Miners’ Maticic named Amyotte’s Awards & Promotions player of the week
THUNDER BAY, Ont. – The Superior International Junior Hockey League announced Monday that English River Miners first-year forward Alex Maticic has been named the Amyotte’s Awards & Promotions Corp. player of the week for the period ending Jan. 25.
In two games during the week that was, the 16-year-old Thunder Bay product scored the game-winning goal in each of his club’s two games, which were both played on the road.
The second-youngest player in the SIJHL this season began his week by notching the difference maker with 3:25 left in regulation as the Miners edged the Thunder Bay North Stars 2-1 Friday.
One night later Maticic tallied twice, including the winner in the final minute, and added an assist as English River upended Dryden 6-5.
On the campaign he currently sits fifth in SIJHL rookie scoring with 22 points on 11 goals and as many assists.
