Lakers strike late to get past North Stars

THUNDER BAY, Ont. –  Fort Frances Lakers affiliate player Matthew Glomba scored with just 12 seconds remaining in regulation to lift them to a 3-2 triumph over the Thunder Bay North Stars Friday in Superior International Junior Hockey League action at the Fort William Gardens.

Thunder Bay took an early lead thank to a Troy Sherman effort three and and a half minutes into the contest only to see Fort Frances counter with markers from Andrew Willner and Nick Minerva to take a 2-1 lead after one period of play.

The North Stars tied it at the 14:15 mark of the middle stanza as Aaron Wesley-Chisel collected his eighth of the season.

It stayed 2-2 until the late going, when with overtime looming Glomba struck late to give the Lakers the road win.

Dylan Robertson dished out two assists for the winners.

Pierce Dushenko made 37 saves to record the victory for Fort Frances.

Riley Corbin stopped 24 of 27 in a losing cause for Thunder Bay.
