4-point night for McPhail as Dryden defeats English River 7-2

DRYDEN, Ont. – The Dryden GM Ice Dogs got a goal and three assists from Derek McPhail to help them defeat the English River Miners 7-2 Friday in a penalty-filled Superior International Junior Hockey League contest at Memorial Arena.

Dryden jumped out to  a 2-0 lead in the first period on a Nic Noseworthy marker five and a half minutes into the contest along with a Troy Williams power play tally at 10:23.

The Miners got one back at 13:03 thanks to Bryan Kromm’s second tally of the season only to see Tanner Watt match that for the GM Ice Dogs before the frame was complete.

McPhail notched the lone effort of the middle session at 11:11 as the home side went up 4-1.

After Alex Maticic brought English River closer 6:10 into the third, Dryden put the game away getting the night’s final three goals to secure the win.

Troy Williams struck shorthanded at 10:44 before Josh Oberg put one into and empty net with three minutes remaining while Ben Smaha finished things off in the last minute.

Braeden Allkins, Mat Houston and Blake Berg dished out two assists each for the GM Ice Dogs to aid the offensive cause.

Dryden outshot English River 36-20 in the game with Troy Pierce picking up the win and Reid Kilburn the loss.
