Iron Ranger’s Tappenden named Amyotte’s Awards & Promotions player of the week
THUNDER BAY, Ont. – The Superior International Junior Hockey League announced Monday that Minnesota Iron Rangers goaltender Devin Tappenden has been named the final Amyotte’s Awards & Promotions Corp. player of the week for the regular season.
In two starts last week, the 20-year-old from Markham, Ont., won both of them helping the Iron Rangers secure second place in the final regular season standings and the No. 2 seed in the upcoming SIJHL playoffs.
Tappenden began with a solid 37-save performance in a 4-2 road win vs. his former club, league-leading Fort Frances.
He followed that up with 31 more stops in another 4-2 decision, which was an away triumph at Thunder Bay Friday as he finished his week with a .944 save percentage.
Tappenden’s 19 combined victories this season, including 11 with Minnesota, was the second most of any goalkeeper in the league.
