Iron Rangers edge Ice Dogs in OT

HOYT LAKES, Minn. – Matt Audet scored three minutes into overtime to lift the Minnesota Iron Rangers to a 5-4 victory over the visiting Dryden Ice Dogs Tuesday evening in Superior International Junior Hockey League action at Hoyt Lakes Arena.

Minnesota grabbed a 2-1 lead after 20 minutes sandwiching markers from Jonathon Losurdo and Austin Frank around a power play blast courtesy of Dryden’s Jonah Coonishish-Coon.

The Ice Dogs used the man advantage again for the only tally in the middle stanza to level the proceedings as Dane Feeney found the mark at 8:54.

Feeney connected again early in the third period to give Dryden the lead only to see Losrurdo notch his second of the night at 5:41 to ties things at 3-3.

After the Ice Dogs’ Chris Sitco struck shorthanded at 11:09, Minnesota forced OT with 6:21 left in regulation as Frank added his second of the evening.

That set the stage for the Iron Rangers to gain the extra point as Audet drove hard to the right side of the net and snapped the game-winner past a sprawled Shayne Dietl in the Dryden net.

Jason Reynolds chipped in with three assists to aid Minnesota’s cause while Cody Kaus had a pair of helpers for the Ice Dogs.

Shots on goal favoured the home side by a 38-26 margin with Erick Majerle picking up the win and Dietl the loss.

The triumph was the fifth in a row for the Iron Rangers as they improved to 11-5-0-2 overall.

Despite the setback Dryden did pick-up a point in the standings as their record went to 9-12-1-0 on the season.
