Dryden outlasts Wisconsin 7-5

SPOONER, Wis. – Chris Sitko tallied twice and set-up another while Zachary Kercz dished out four assists to help lift the Dryden Ice Dogs to a 7-5 triumph over the Wisconsin Wilderness Wednesday night in Superior International Junior Hockey League action at the Spooner Ice House.

Both teams came out flying in the opening period scoring three times each in just under a 16-minute span.

Each time Dryden connected Wisconsin answered right back with Ryan Salazar, Derek McPhail and Jonah Coonishish-Coon, on the power play, found the back of the net for the Ice Dogs.

Countering for the Wilderness were Justin Gregory, Tanner Vinson and Sawyer Jacobson.

The visitors jumped out to a 5-3 lead in the middle stanza thanks to another man advantage effort by Coonishish-Coon and one that came via even strength by Jarrett Day.

Brady Peterson brought Wisconsin closer late in the stanza with his first SIJHL goal.

Sitco then put Dryden in control in the final frame as he finished off the work of Kerz twice in just under three minutes.

Shane Billings added one for the Wilderness midway through the period in what would turn out to be the final goal of the evening.

Terry Hughes stopped 46 of the 51 shots fired his way to earn the win while Wisconsin starter Luke Thompson turned aside 25 of 31 he faced and Zann Anderson five saves on six attempts in nearly 17 minutes of relief.
