Ice Dogs blast Iron Rangers

DRYDEN, Ont. – The Dryden GM Ice Dogs scored the game’s final six goals, including the last three while shorthanded, to lead them to a 7-1 victory over the Minnesota Iron Rangers Friday in a Superior International Junior Hockey League contest at Memorial Arena.

After a scoreless opening period, Dryden got on the board a couple minutes into the second stanza thanks to a Blake Berg effort.

Jake Ellingson tied it for Minnesota 11 minutes later, but the GM Ice Dogs erupted for three late markers in the session off the sticks of Cole Golka, Jonathon Philley and Nick Eytcheson to take control.

In the third the home side put the game away scoring three times while down a man to pull out the victory.

Notching those shorthanded tallies were Troy Williams, Zac Schlitt and Nick Prouty.

Tate Sproxton made 27 saves to pick up the win while Devin Tappenden faced 36 attempts in defeat.
