Huot’s 5-point night leads Norskies past Iron Rangers

HOYT LAKES, Ont. – Keaton Huot scored twice and assisted on three others to help lead the Thief River Falls Norskies to a 6-4 triumph over the Minnesota Iron Rangers Tuesday evening in Superior International Junior Hockey League action at Hoyt Lakes Arena.

Minnesota did take a 1-0 lead after one period on play on a Korey Muzzy shorthanded effort at 13:04.

Thief River Falls came back in the second and outscored the Iron Rangers 3-1 to go up by one after two.

After Connor Smith tied it on the power play early in the session, Michael Johnson’s ninth put the visitors up just 34 seconds later.

Logan Froberg brought Minnesota back to 2-2 later in the stanza, but Huot put the Norskies back in front for good with a man-down marker at 16:26.

Mitchel Soderberg and Smith struck twice in rapid succession in the first two minutes of the third to make it 5-2 TRF.

Battling back, Jonathan Yanovsky and Austin Boyle brought Minnesota to within a goal however Huot iced it with an empty netter with 23 seconds to go to round out the scoring.

Kross Braaten faced 53 shots to record his first SIJHL win for the Norskies.

Alex Burke meanwhile made 30 stops in defeat for the Iron Rangers.
