Golka rallies GM Dogs past Iron Rangers

HOYT LAKES, Minn. – Cole Golka scored his league-leading 38th goal of the season, assisted on another and then notched the lone tally in the shootout as the Dryden GM Ice Dogs stormed back from a 3-0 deficit to upend the Minnesota Iron Rangers 4-3 in the finale of the Superior International Junior Hockey League Showcase held Thursday evening at Hoyt Lakes Arena.

Minnesota picked up the lone marker of the opening period as Seth Chumley picked up his 12th of the season midway through the stanza.

The Iron Rangers tacked on two more in the second off the sticks of Jason Reynolds and Max Seiter to go up by three before regulation time was half completed.

Dryden started their comeback at 15:06 of the second as Blake Berg made it a 3-1 game.

Golka then struck on the power play with 30 seconds remaining in the session to pull the GM Ice Dogs to within one entering the third.

Dryden then forced extra time as Matt Houston scored during a man advantage with 2:51 to go.

Following a scoreles five-minute overtime, extra shots were required to see who picked up the second point on the evening.

It the shootout, after the first five attempts were thwarted, Golka won it on his opportunity to cap the GM Ice Dogs rally.

Tate Sproxton made 35 stops, plus three more in the shootout, to secure the victory for Dogs.

Kyle Carignan made 25 saves in defeat, in which the Iron Rangers did pick-up one point in defeat.

SIJHL action resumes Saturday as Dryden pays a visit to the English River Miners in a 7 p.m. start at Ear Falls Arena.
