Dryden drops English River

EAR FALLS, Ont. –The Superior International Junior Hockey League’s leading point producer, Cole Golka of the Dryden GM Ice Dogs, tacked on four more to his totals to help his side defeat the English River Miners 5-1 Saturday evening at Ear Falls Arena.

Dryden jumped out to a 2-0 lead after 20 minutes with Golka helping set-up Kyle Pouncy before picking up his SIJHL-best 39th tally of the campaign during a man advantage later in the session.

Jonathon Philley extended the visitors cushion 22 seconds into the middle session in what turned out to be the only marker of the stanza.

English River’s Lucas Toth ended Tate Sproxton’s shutout bid 7:25 into the third to make it a 3-1 game.

After Blake Berg made it 4-1 for the GM Ice Dogs at 12:45, Houston added another on the power play in the final minute to round out the scoring.

With his four-point night Golka now has 69 on the season while extending a consecutive game point streak to five.

Sproxton finished with 34 stops to register the win while Greg Harney faced 37 attempts in defeat for the Miners.
