GM Ice Dogs’ Golka named Amyotte’s Awards & Promotions player of the week
THUNDER BAY, Ont. – The Superior International Junior Hockey League announced Monday that Dryden GM Ice Dogs forward Cole Golka has been named the Amyotte’s Awards & Promotions Corp. player of the week for the period ending Dec. 14.
In four games last week the 20-year-old Strathcona County, Alta., native racked up 13 points helping his club skate to three wins and move back over the .500-mark in the SIJHL standings.
Golka began by scoring twice, including the game-winner and added an assist in a victory over English River Tuesday.
Wednesday night he scored twice more, set-up another and then buried the decider in the shootout as Dryden slipped past visiting Thunder Bay.
Friday evening Golka had one of his teams’ tallies in a loss to league-leading Fort Frances then finished off his impressive week by tacking on four more markers and doling out a pair of helpers in a home ice triumph over Minnesota.
He has now scored at least once in five straight outings and is also riding a solid eight-game point streak.
His offensive outburst helped him moved into top spot in SIJHL scoring with 48 points while extending his league-best goal total to 29 in 27 games played.
Also receiving consideration for the SIJHL player of the week was: Lucas Debenedet, (F) Fort Frances Lakers; Thomas Fazio, (F) Minnesota Iron Rangers; Kris Kellaway, (F) Thunder Bay North Stars; and Kyle Baril, (F) English River Miners.
