GM Ice Dogs get past Miners 3-1

DRYDEN, Ont. –  The Dryden GM Ice Dogs got a pair of goals, including the game-winner, from Braeden Allkins to help lift them to a 3-1 victory over the English River Miners Wednesday night in Superior International Junior Hockey League action at Memorial Arena.

Allkins struck late in the opening period to put the home side up by one with 65 seconds left in the session.

The Dryden forward then picked up another 1:17 into the second as his 18th of the season made it 2-0.

Karsen Szczecinski’s fourth of the campaign put the GM Ice Dogs up by three 10 and a half minutes later, which spelled the end to Miners’ starter Korlan Vader’s night in favour of Reid Kilburn the rest of the way.

English River would get on board at 5:42 of the third as Ryker Moreau struck on the power play to put an end to Taylor Unruh’s shutout bid.

The Dryden defence tightened up again from there however as they held on for the win.

Unruh finished with 16 saves to record the victory for the GM Ice Dogs.

Vader suffered the loss allowing three against on 21 shots while Kilburn stopped all 23 attempts he saw in relief.
