Iron Rangers erupt for 5 in 2nd in 7-3 win over North Stars

HOYT LAKES, Minn. – The Minnesota Iron Rangers erupted for five second period goals to send them to a 7-3 victory over the Thunder Bay North Stars Wednesday evening in Superior International Junior Hockey League play at Hoyt Lakes Arena.

Thunder Bay got off to a good start, notching the night’s opening tally 45 seconds in on a Brad Thrower effort.

Minnesota drew level at 7:21 thanks to Tristyn Sabina only to see Aaron Wesley-Chisel counter for the North Stars just over a minute later to put the visitors back on top.

The middle stanza saw the Iron Rangers explode getting markers 10 minutes apart from Austin Ramirez, Dalton Johnson, John Cuni and Logan Froberg to go up 5-2.

After Brad Arabia got one back for Thunder Bay at 16:15, Minnesota’s Ramirez added another 67 seconds later to restore the home side’s cushion.

The Iron Rangers then put the game away midway through the third thanks to Froberg’s second of the night and sixth overall to round out the scoring.

Cuni and Dan Sarnecki dished out three assists each for Minnesota in the win.

Shots on goal in the contest favoured the Iron Rangers 46-35 with Anhony Pupplo picking up the win and Eric Mann the loss.
