GM Ice Dogs edge North Stars in shootout

DRYDEN, Ont. – Blake Berg scored the lone goal in the shootout as the Dryden GM Ice Dogs edged the Thunder Bay North Stars 4-3 Friday evening in Superior International Junior Hockey League action at Memorial Arena.

Dryden jumped out to a 2-0 lead after one period of play thanks to a pair of Cole Golka efforts.

Thunder Bay responded getting markers a minute apart from Bradley Belisle and then Kris Kellaway, shorthanded, to level the proceedings only to see the Ice Dogs’ Chris Sitco strike while his side was down a man with just four seconds left left in the second stanza.

A third man down effort in the game allowed the North Stars to force overtime as he added a shorthanded effort with 8:38 left in regulation.

After a scoreless five-minute OT solved nothing Berg gave Dryden the extra point on the night as he beat Thunder Bay’s Nathaniel Dupuis with the only goal in extra shots.

Tate Sproxton picked up the victory for the Ice Dogs while Dupuis helped the Stars pick up a point.
