Erickson leads Minnesota past English River

HOYT LAKES,  Minn. – Evan Erickson scored once and set-up four others to help lead the Minnesota Iron Rangers to a 6-2 victory over the English River Miners Saturday in Superior International Junior Hockey League action at Hoyt Lakes Arena.

Minnesota got on the three and a half minutes into the contest courtesy of a Evan Bennett effort.

The Iron Rangers added to that in the final minute of the first as Thomas Fazio made it 2-0 late in the frame.

A pair of power play markers in the middle stanza put the home side up by four with Seth Chumley potting the eventual game-winner two minutes into the session followed by one from Erickson at 5:11.

Minnesota added to their cushion in the third on two Jason Reynolds goals to make it 6-0.

English River put an end to Kyle Carignan’s shutout bid midway through the final period with Lucas Toth finishing off a feed from Alex Maticic.

Liam Watson’s first SIJHL tally at 14:24 of the third rounded out the scoring.

Shots on goal in the contest were 53-31 in favour of the Iron Rangers with Carignan picking up the win and Greg Harney the loss.
