Dushenko’s 32-save shutout backstops Lakers over GM Ice Dogs

DRYDEN, Ont. – Fort Frances Lakers goaltender Pierce Dushenko turned aside all 32 shots he faced to post his Superior International Junior Hockey League-leading fourth shutout of the season and also picked up an assist in a 5-0 victory over the Dryden GM Ice Dogs Wednesday evening at Memorial Arena.

Dylan Kooner potted the only goal Fort Frances would need on this night 12 minutes into the contest notching the eventual game-winner.

The Lakers extended their cushion 88 seconds into the middle stanza as defenceman Nick Minerva blasted in his sixth of the season.

Kooner added another at 4:42 while Carter Chorney added to the cushion 11 minutes later as the visitors took a four-goal cushion into the final frame.

Dylan Robertson rounded out the scoring early in the third as he notched his team-best 17th goal of the season, which also matches him for the SIJHL-lead with Dryden’s Derek McPhail.

Roshen Jaswal had a big night for the Lakers dishing out three assists in the triumph while Andrew Willner added a couple of helpers.

With the win first place Fort Frances improved to 20-3-0-1 while the GM Ice Dogs slipped to 17-6-1-2.

Taylor Unruh faced 25 shots in defeat for Dryden.
