Dryden’s Matt Houston named Amyotte’s Awards & Promotions player of the week
THUNDER BAY, Ont. – The Superior International Junior Hockey League announced Monday that Dryden GM Ice Dogs forward Matt Houston has been named the Amyotte’s Awards & Promotions Corp. player of the week for the period ending Feb. 28.
In three games last week the 20-year-old native of Calgary, Alta, had goals in each of them and amassed seven points in total, along with a shootout marker, helping Dryden skate to a trio of victories.
The GM Ice Dogs assistant captain began by scoring once in regulation and adding another in the shootout as Dryden topped league-leading Fort Frances 5-4 on Wednesday.
Two nights later he scored once more and helped set-up two others as the GM Ice Dogs defeated Minnesota 3-1.
Houston then capped off his week by notching a hat trick as Dryden blanked the Iron Rangers 6-0 on Sunday night.
On the season he sits tied for seventh overall SIJHL offensive numbers with 42 points on 18 goals and 24 assists.
