Dryden’s Golka named CJHL Central all-star

THUNDER BAY, Ont. – The Canadian Junior Hockey League announced Thursday that Cole Golka of the Superior International Junior Hockey League’s Dryden GM Ice Dogs has been named to the first-ever CJHL Central All-Star Team, which recognizes the regular season’s top players from the CJHL’s three Central Junior A leagues.

Also selected were goaltender Justin Kapelmaster (Trenton Golden Hawks, OJHL), defencemen Ethan Strong (Kirkland Lake Gold Miners, NOJHL) and Eric Williams (Aurora Tigers, OJHL) as well as forwards Steve Hladin (Georgetown Raiders, OJHL) and Steve Harland (Powassan Voodoos, NOJHL).

The Strathcona County, Alta., product was earlier named the SIJHL’s most valuable player and was also selected a CCM first team all-star at forward.

Golka had a tremendous 2014-15 campaign leading all SIJHL skaters in both goals and points with 47 and 89 respectively.

His 42 assists also put him into a share for third most overall.

The GM Ice Dogs forward also finished tied for the league-lead in game-winning tallies with seven, while his 14 power play markers were the second most in the SIJHL.

Golka earlier established new Dryden franchise records for goals and points in a single season.
