Dryden wins 2nd straight in OT

DRYDEN, Ont. –  Jonathon Philley scored early in overtime to give the Dryden GM Ice Dogs their second straight win in OT as they got past the English River Miners 3-2 Superior International Junior Hockey League play Sunday at Memorial Arena.

One night earlier they edged the league-leading Fort Frances Lakers by the same 3-2 score with the pair of victories moving them to within one point of second place Minnesota with two games remaining for both sides in the race for home ice advantage in SIJHL semifinal action.

Troy Williams staked Dryden to an early lead with the lone tally of the opening period.

Kirk Coppock’s seventh of the season tied it for English River on the first shift of the second stanza while Ian Bablitz put the Miners in front a minute later.

The score stayed that way until 5:07 of the third when Kyle Pouncy forced extra time with his eighth of the campaign.

Philley then won it quickly for the Ice Dogs in OT to earn the extra point on the night.

Dryden held a big edge in shots on goal with Tate Sproxton picking up his SIJHL-best 22nd win making 16 saves on the night.

Greg Harney turning in a solid 55-save performance to help his side earn a point.
