Dryden’s Sproxton named Amyotte’s Awards & Promotions player of the week
THUNDER BAY, Ont. – The Superior International Junior Hockey League announced Monday that Dryden GM Ice Dogs goaltender Tate Sproxton has been named the Amyotte’s Awards & Promotions Corp. player of the week for the period ending March 8.
In three starts last week the 19-year-old netminder from White Rock, B.C. earned victories in each of them, including two in overtime; to help Dryden stay in the hunt for second place overall in the SIJHL standings and home ice advantage in the semifinal round.
Sproxton began with a 38-save night Tuesday as the GM Ice Dogs edged Minnesota 2-1.
Saturday evening he made another 36 stops to backstop his side to a 3-2 OT triumph over league-leading Saturday.
The Dryden netminder capped off his week by turning aside 16 of 18 attempts Sunday in a 3-2 extra time decision over English River.
Sproxton enters the final week of the regular season leading the league in wins with 22.
