Dryden improves to 3-0

DRYDEN, Ont. – The Dryden GM Ice Dogs scored three third period goals en route to a 4-2 victory over the Fort Frances Lakers Wednesday evening in Superior International Junior Hockey League action at Memorial Arena.

Dryden got off to a quick start as Jon Philley beat Fort Frances starter Devin Tappenden 1:52 after the opening face-off.

The score stayed at 1-0 until 7:14 mark of the middle stanza as the Lakers’ Dylan Kooner struck on the power play to level the proceedings heading into the final frame.

It took just nine seconds into the third for the GM Ice Dogs to go back on top as Cole Golka made it 2-1.

After Matt Vela pulled Fort Frances even seven minutes later, Derek McPhail put Dryden in front for good with 5:24 remaining.

Chris Sitco then added some insurance in the late going with an empty netter to round out the night’s scoring.

Josh Martin made 27 saves to register the win for GM Ice Dogs, who improved to 3-0 early on the season.

Tappenden allowed three against on 30 attempts in defeat as Fort Frances suffered their first loss of the campaign, dropping to 2-1.
