6-point night for Lyndon Lipinski as Lakers edge Iron Rangers

HOYT LAKES, Minn. – Lyndon Lipinski of the Fort Frances Lakers scored three times and added as many assists to help his side rally for a 6-5 victory over the Minnesota Iron Rangers Wednesday night in Superior International Junior Hockey League play at Hoyt Lakes Arena.

Minnesota jumped out to a 2-0 lead after 20 minutes on a power play goal by Noah Anderson and an even strength effort courtesy of Matt Audet.

Opting to replace starter Jordan Carney with Devin Tappenden to begin the second period, Fort Frances appeared buoyed by the move as Mason Meyer found the mark 86 seconds into the middle stanza making it 2-1.

Lucas Debenedet then levelled the proceedings at 3:20 as he fired home his league-leading 41st of the season at 3:20.

The Iron Rangers retook the lead just over two minutes later thanks to Ben Rauschnot only to see the Lakers answer right back with Lipinski’s first of the night.

Later in the session Trevor Hoth made it 4-3 Minnesota, but Lipinski struck again at 17:01 to knot the affair after 40 minutes.

Lipinski’s completed his hat-trick at 4:19 of the third however Hoth tied it with 13:40 left in regulation.

Fort Frances would eventually win it off the stick of Cody Wickstrom as he buried the difference maker at 14:17 to round out the night’s scoring.

Meyer finished with four assists for the Lakers for a five-point evening with Seth Chumley and Drew Millis chipping in with a pair of helpers apiece for the Iron Rangers.

Shots on goal favoured Fort Frances 34-23 with Tappenden picking up the win in relief of Cartney while Alex Reichle suffered the loss.

SIJHL play resumes Thursday as the Dryden Ice Dogs host the English River Miners in a 7:30 p.m. start at Memorial Arena.
