Mann stops 34 as North Stars blank Iron Rangers

HOYT LAKES, Minn. – Eric Mann kicked out all 34 shots he faced to register his first Superior International Junior Hockey League shutout as the Thunder Bay North Stars blanked the Minnesota Iron Rangers 3-0 Tuesday evening at Hoyt Lakes Arena.

The lone goal the North Stars would need on this night came in the opening period as Ryan Walsh notched his third of the season at 7:41.

Thunder Bay extended their cushion four minutes into the middle session thanks to Zach Grzelewski to go up a pair after two periods of play.

Daniel Del Paggio then added some insurance early in the final frame as he struck shorthanded in what would be the final marker of the evening.

With the tally and an assist on Grzelewski’s effort Del Paggio extended a consecutive game point streak to 22.

Erick Majerle faced 20 shots in a losing cause for Minnesota.

SIJHL play continues Wednesday as Minnesota entertains the league-leading Fort Frances Lakers in a 7 p.m. start back in Hoyt Lakes.
