4 points for Fazio as Minnesota whips Wisconsin

HOYT LAKES, Minn. – Tom Fazio scored twice and doled out a two assists to help the Minnesota Iron Rangers paste the Wisconsin Wilderness 9-3 Tuesday in Superior International Junior Hockey League action at Hoyt Lakes Arena.

Fazio scored the lone goal of the opening period to get the Iron Rangers going.

After Austin Frank made it 2-0 near the five-minute mark of the middle stanza, Wisconsin’s Darrick Howard cut into the deficit at 6:15.

Minnesota responded with tallies from T.J. Samec and Evan Erickson to go up by three after two.

The home side blew it open in the final frame connecting four times in a span of two minutes and 18 seconds to take full control as Eric Madison, Matt O’Dea, Evan Erickson and Fazio all struck in quick order.

A shorthanded effort by Shane Billings and an even strength marker by Alex Rezansoff brought the Wilderness closer before Trevor Hoth iced it with a power play goal with 15 seconds remaining to wrap things up.

Alex Reichle made 24 saves to register the win for Minnesota.

Griffin Strain started for Wisconsin and suffered the loss allowing six against on 35 shots while Zann Anderson stopped 12 of 15 in relief.
