Iron Rangers’ Erickson named Pizza Hut player of the week

THUNDER BAY, Ont. – The Superior International Junior Hockey League announced Thursday that Minnesota Iron Rangers  forward Evan Erickson has been named the final Pizza Hut player of the week for the SIJHL’s regular season.

In three games during the time frame the 19-year-old native of Woodbury, Minn., scored in each of them and amassed seven points in total leading the Iron Rangers to a trio of victories.

He began by striking shorthanded before setting up the game-winner in a 4-3 triumph over English River last Monday.

In his next contest Erickson he notched another man-down effort and added a later assist in a 7-1 romp over Wisconsin.

The Minnesota forward then capped off his award-winning run by tallying twice, including burying the game-winner via the power play, and chipping in with a helper to help lead his squad to a 9-3 decision over the Wilderness.

Erickson has recorded 30 points in 28 games since joining the Iron Rangers back in mid-December.

He concluded the regular season on a six-game point streak.

Earning honourable mention for the Pizza Hut player of the week was Brenden Wilde; (F) English River Miners; Chris Varrin, (F) Dryden Ice Dogs; Kevin Kurm, (F) Fort Frances Lakers; Robert MacLean, (F) Thunder Bay North Stars and Nick Eytcheson, (D) Wisconsin Wilderness.

The SIJHL’s most valuable player will be presented the Pizza Hut player of the year award and will also go on to be the league’s representative for the national RBC – Canadian Junior Hockey League player of the year trophy.

The three finalists for the honour are John Morales, (F) English River Miners, Lucas Debenedet, (F) Fort Frances Lakers and Daniel Del Paggio, (F) Thunder Bay North Stars.
