4-goal 2nd sends Dryden past English River

EAR FALLS, Ont. – The Dryden GM Ice Dogs broke open a one-goal game with four unaswered markers in the second period to help them defeat the English River Miners 5-2 Saturday evening in Superior International Junior Hockey League play at Ear Falls Arena.

The Miners picked up the lone tally of the opening session as Alex Maticic connected on the power play at 10:31 of the first.

Dryden drew level 44 seconds into the middle stanza on a Braedyn Aubin effort.

Aubin added another just over a minute later to put the GM Ice Dogs in front for good.

They added to their cushion midway through the contest as Derek McPhail converted during a man advantage opportunity.

Matt Houston capped off the second period outburst with off of his own at 12:14.

Terrance McLean brought the Miners to within two with 6:09 to go, but Dryden iced it with an empty netter from Woody Galbraith in the final minute to round out the night’s scoring.

Nathan Avery dished out two assists to help the visitors offensively.

Paul Laferriere made 27 saves to record the win for Dryden while Korlan Vader faced 37 shots in defeat for English River.
