Miners’ Maticic named Amyotte’s Awards & Promotions player of the week
THUNDER BAY, Ont. – The Superior International Junior Hockey League announced Monday that English River Miners forward Alex Maticic has been named the Amyotte’s Awards & Promotions Corp. player of the week for the period ending Oct. 4.
In three outings during the week that was the 17-year-old forward scored seven times and doled out four assists as the Miners completed a three-game sweep of the Thunder Bay North Stars.
Maticic began his offensive outburst this past Thursday by notching a hat trick, including the game-winner, and setting up three others in a 10-7 victory in a high-scoring affair.
The next night the Thunder Bay native tacked on two more tallies and added an assist in an 8-7 decision that went in favour of English River.
Maticic then capped off his impressive week by scoring twice in the Miners 4-3 triumph over the North Stars Saturday.
Through eight games he has recorded points in seven of them and currently sits second in SIJHL offensive production with 15 points, which is only behind teammate Landon Matechuk’s 19.
Also earning consideration for the Amyotte’s player of the week was: Kris Hamlin, (F) Thunder Bay North Stars; Nick Minerva, (D) Fort Frances Lakers; Blake Berg, (F) Dryden GM Ice Dogs & Dalton Johnson, (D) Minnesota Iron Rangers.
