Robinson rallies Lakers to OT win vs. GM Ice Dogs

FORT FRANCES, Ont. – Dylan Robertson’s third tally and fourth point 63 seconds into overtime was the difference as the Fort Frances Lakers stormed back from a four-goal  third period deficit to shock the Dryden GM Ice Dogs 6-5 Tuesday in Superior International Junior Hockey League play at Ice for Kids Arena.

Dryden picked up the lone marker in the first period thanks to Matt Houston’s effort at 12:47.

Nic Noseworthy then put the visitors up a pair in the first minute of the second before Robertson connected on the power play to make it 2-1 at 1:27.

The GM Ice Dogs then countered with three straight goals to take a 5-1 lead after 40 minutes on tallies by David Stickney, Ben Smaha and another by Noseworthy, which came during a late man advantage.

It was all Lakers in the third however as they came out flying in the session.

After Nick Minevera made it 5-2 nearly three minutes into the frame, Fort Frances pulled to within two with 6:47 remaining thanks to Robertson.

The power play allowed the Lakers to make it 5-4 with 2:40 remaining in regulation on Dustin Deugau’s second of the season.

With the man advantage, Fort Frances then forced extra time with 34 seconds to go as Francois Lemelin noctched the equalizer, picking up his initial SIJHL tally.

Building on that, the Lakers completed the impressive comeback early in OT to shock the GM Ice Dogs.

Robbie Bonthron also had a big night four Fort Frances as he doled out four assists in the victory chipping in on each of the four power play goals his side scored in the game.

The Lakers outshot Dryden 38-37 on the night with Pierce Dushenko picking up the win and Paul Laferriere the OT setback, which helped the GM Ice Dogs salvage a point.
