Wolframe’s 4 points leads North Stars over Iron Rangers

HOYT LAKES, Minn. – Brand Wolframe had a goal and dished out three assists to help propel the Thunder Bay North Stars to an 8-2 victory over the Minnesota Iron Rangers Tuesday evening in Superior International Junior Hockey League play at Hoyt Lakes Arena.

Despite arriving late due to a bus breakdown, Thunder Bay stormed out of the gate in this one scoring four times before the game was eight minutes old and never looked back as they improved to 2-0 early in the season.

Wolframe, Kris Kellaway, Daniel Delpaggio and Mathias Gardiman accounted for those goals before Tevor Hoth got Minnesota on the board at 8:33.

Taylor Santorelli and Robert MacLean again extended the Thunder Bay lead to 6-1 in the middle session while Jonathon Losurdo connected on the power play in the late going of the stanza to make it a four-goal game heading into the third.

In the final session the Stars put it away getting efforts from Cary Brown and captain Trevor Hynnes to round out the scoring.

Nathanial Dupuis started for Thunder Bay and picked up the win in nearly two periods of work before Eric Mann entered in relief and went the rest of the way.

Shots on goal favoured the visitors 28-24 with Alex Reichle suffering the loss in the Iron Rangers’ season debut.

SIJHL action resumes Wednesday as the Dryden Ice Dogs host the rival Fort Frances Lakers in a 7:30 p.m. start at Memorial Arena.
