Wagner records 1st SIJHL shutout in Lakers win over Iron Rangers

FORT FRANCES, Ont. – The Fort Frances Lakers rode the 40-save shutout of goaltender Ryan Wagner to help them defeat the Minnesota Iron Rangers 4-0 Friday night in Superior International Junior Hockey League action at Ice for Kids Arena.

Fort Frances used special teams to get going offensively in the opening stanza starting with a Matt Tustin shorthanded marker at 12:11.

Just over a minute and a half later the Lakers connected on the power play to go up as pair as Tyler Malpass notched his fifth of the campaign.

Josh Gouin made it 3-0 midway through the second as he added his first of the season.

Fort Frances affiliate Ian Tookenay joined the Lakers scoring parade as he supplied his initial SIJHL tally with 6:12 left to wrap things up offensively.

The shutout was Wagner’s first in the league as earn earned the win while Sean Angle faced 34 attempts in defeat for Minnesota.
