Thief River Falls  SIJHL franchise names 1st head coach

THIEF RIVER FALLS, Minn. — The Thief River Falls Jr. A Hockey Team of the Superior International Junior Hockey League is excited to announce the franchise’s first-ever head coach of the program has been hired.

Cole Workman, 25, will lead the expansion franchise in its first year playing in the SIJHL.

The native of Howell, Mich., comes to Thief River Falls after serving as an assistant coach with the Adrian Bulldogs D-III NCAA women’s program and the Finlandia Lions NCAA men’s program.

Prior to becoming a coach, he played four years at Finlandia University.

“We believe we have hired the right up and coming coach to lead a new program,” offered Thief River Falls general manager Kevin McCallum.

“Cole brings experience and energy to a very tough job,” added McCallum.

“I know Cole will give us his best and I believe he will be successful.”

Thief River Falls team president Tim Bergland also offered his thoughts.

“The whole process of bringing a junior hockey team to Thief River Falls and northwestern Minnesota has been exciting for me'” said Bergland.

“Now we have quality young man, who is extremely excited to come to Thief River Falls and join this group and start putting the team’s identity together.

He will be a great asset to the team and the area.”
